From my Window

A soundscape of my neighborhood. This soundscape is a faithful reflection of my neighborhood, where I have been residing for over a year in Mexico City. Colonia San Rafael, founded in 1859, is recognized as one of the oldest and most distinguished neighborhoods in the city, situated in its central area. There is no better way to capture my daily experience in this charming place, brimming with popular culture and authenticity, than by exploring the diversity of sounds, whistles, and advertisements that mark the passage of the day, from dawn to dusk.

"From my window" arises from participatory research, where I interviewed various people who have lived in Colonia San Rafael for over 25 years, including neighbors, street vendors engaged in informal commerce in the area, and workers who visit it daily from the outskirts of Mexico City. From my artistic perspective, it is impossible to portray a place through a delimited physical space without first exploring the perspective of those who give it meaning. This project invites us to imagine and transports us to a context charged with history and significance, while immersing us in a journey through time to memories, affections, and perspectives of voices that, although often relegated to the background, are fundamental to the identity of Colonia San Rafael.
